interstitial lung disease
The term "interstitial lung disease" (ILD) refers to a range of disorders that induce lung scarring (fibrosis). Scarring produces stiffness in the lungs, making breathing and delivering oxygen to the circulation difficult. Interstitial Lung Disease cause irreversible lung damage that worsens with time.
The most frequent condition of this type is idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Autoimmune illnesses (in which the body's immune system fights itself) such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, sarcoidosis, and scleroderma are among the many known causes of ILD.
