United Airlines Flight Change Policy
There have been major changes in the United Airlines flight change policy because of the coronavirus pandemic. United has eliminated permanently the change charges for Economy Standard (except basic Economy) economy Plus United First, United Business along with United Premium Plus ticket when you are traveling:

The border between and between the United States and Mexico or the Caribbean

International flights that originate in the U.S.

Basic Economy tickets are only able to be changed up until 30th December 2021 in the event that the date of travel is December 31.

For all other international routes not mentioned above, the change fee is waived on tickets purchased before December 31st.

Electronic certificates will be valid for a period of 24 months from the date of the certificate's issue. This applies to electronic certificates which are valid today and certificates issued on or after April 1st. The expiration date for all electronic certificates that were scheduled to expire on or before December 31 has been extended until December 31.

United Airlines Flight Change Policy for basic economy tickets
United Airlines flight change policy cannot permit modifications to an Basic Economy ticket regardless of the 24-hour timeframe. The best option is to cancel your ticket in less than 24 hours (free of cost) and then purchase another ticket.
Exception. Basic Economy tickets purchased prior until December 31 can be changed with no charge for a flight change as long as the date of travel begins after December 31.
United Airlines Flight Change Policy for Tickets that are Non-Refundable
United Airlines revised flight change policy to allow you to alter a ticket that is non-refundable without cost. However, you'll have pay for the difference in fare in the event of a difference.

Note. If you would like to change your travel plans and book later, visit United.com Select My Trips Select cancel flight, then confirm cancellation. Select a Travel Credit option to use for future travel.
United Airlines Policy for Missed, delayed, or cancelled Flights
If your flight is delayed by an hour or more, or if you missed a connecting flight, United will locate an alternative flight (you'll be notified and all you have to do is sign in to the flight and download your boarding pass and then take your flight).
