Processing of Resident Visas of 2021

Immigration New Zealand continues to prioritise the processing of applications for the 2021 Resident Visa. The requirements for this new visa category are simple and straightforward.

Resident Visa applications for 2021 will be processed faster than skilled residence (Skilled Migrant, or Residence from Work category) applications due to the streamlined application and evaluation procedure. We anticipate that the majority of the applications will be handled within a year.

We will maintain a small team of Immigration Officers available to process skilled residence applications when the principal applicant is not eligible for the new Resident Visa or refuses to apply for one. Most of our Skilled Residence staff will focus on processing applications for the new Resident Visa in 2021; however a small team of Immigration Officers will process any skilled residence applications where the principal applicant is not eligible for the new Resident Visa in 2021.

We're giving offshore resident visa applicants more information about their possibilities.

When an application is assigned to an immigration officer, applicants will be notified.

The time it takes to evaluate applications varies greatly. It is contingent on the quality of the supporting papers and if more information or verification is required.

We are unable to provide an estimate of when an application will be decided. As the application is reviewed, the immigration officer who is examining it will offer updates.
