In the early 1930s, the Panzer I light tank was introduced. The Panzer I was developed as a training vehicle in Germany after the Treaty of Versailles when large-scale weaponry and production were strictly restricted. The Panzer I featured just 13 mm of armor and two MG 34 machine guns in the turret since it was never designed for front-line action. It was used on the front lines of the Spanish Civil War as the Panzer I Ausf. A, but its lack of firepower and protection confined it to reconnaissance tasks. In 1936, the Ausf. A was superseded by the Ausf. B, which had improved suspension, a more powerful engine, and a new transmission. Unfortunately, the Ausf. B gave only marginally more protection
