India blank Netherlands 5-0 in Thomas Cup
In their first Group C match, the Indian men's badminton team blanked lower-ranked Netherlands 5-0 to get off to a winning start at the Thomas Cup Final today.

Joran Kweekel was defeated by Kidambi Srikanth. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty sailed past Ruben Jille and Ties van der Lecq in the doubles tie, B Sai Praneeth demolished Robin Mesman, MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila defeated Andy Buijk and Brian Wassink in the second doubles tie 21-12 21-13 before Sameer Verma completed the sweep by defeating Gijs Duijs.

Kidambi Srikanth won a men's singles match against Joran Kweekel 21-12 21-14 on Sunday night, before India's doubles team of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated Ruben Jille and Ties van der Lecq 21-19 21-12 to give India a 2-0 lead.

In the second singles match, world bronze medalist B Sai Praneeth beat Robin Mesman 21-4 21-12 in 27 minutes to give India an unassailable 3-0 lead.

In the second doubles match, MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila defeated Andy Buijk and Brian Wassink 21-12 21-13 before Sameer Verma completed the sweep by defeating Gijs Duijs 21-6 21-11 in the third and final singles round.

Earlier on Sunday, top shuttler Saina Nehwal was forced to withdraw midway through her first match, but India's young women's team put on a polished performance to win the Uber Cup Final 3-2 against Spain.

On Tuesday, India's men's team will face another weak opponent in Tahiti in the Thomas Cup, while India's women's shuttlers will face Scotland in Group B.
