It’s been a long wait since the lights went out at Vivid 2019, but the wait is finally over. The magical time of the year has once again arrived and this year, Vivid Sydney will transform the city into a massive exhibition of creativity, technology and shining bright lights. Kicking off on the 27th of May, the festival of lights, music and ideas will see over 200 events celebrating the very soul of the city. Read some of the festival highlights down below.
Sydney and its magnificent harbour is ready to get fancied up in colours and lights and the residents cannot be more excited. With tens of thousands of people flocking to the harbour, you might be in the midst of large crowds. Vivid is not all about shiny lights and extravagant music concerts, there is a whole section dedicated to showcasing the minds of brilliant thinkers and talkers from across the globe. These talks, debates, discussions and workshops seek to inspire changes in the minds of the listeners and help elevate their perception about life itself. They cover hot topics and current affairs including art, beauty, fluidity, comedy, workplace toxicity and many more! And now that the curbs are lifted off, the organisers can assemble the most brilliant and creative minds from far and near, in what will be an impressive series of events. Get inspired by pop icon Troye Sivan, as he shares his take on fame, gender politics, upcoming music and beauty. Legendary movie maker Baz Luhrmann will also make an appearance in a special-night event, where he discusses his upcoming blockbuster biopic, Elvis!
First Light
The opening night of the festival is also one for the history books. Before the lights go on, a special event known as First Light will be hosted as an acknowledgement and respect to the gadigal people of the land. Vivid Sydney 2022 also boasts an incredible lineup of indegenous artists and thinkers, in fact, more than we have ever seen in the previous years. The Harbour Bridge will act as a stunning backdrop for this touching ceremony with its pylos getting illuminated by Sharing the Same Life Essence, an ode to the ancestors of the land and the indegenous community. The event will also feature a Welcome To Country, a smoking ceremony and a specially choreographed performance by NAISDA dancers.
Vivid Sydney Dinner
The festival brings to life numerous festival firsts and one of them is the Vivid Sydney Dinner event, hosted on the fourth of June. This inaugural event of food, music, lights and talks will jazz up the Ivy Ballroom and highlight the theme of the festival ‘Soul of Our City’ through creative cuisines. Masterchefs Dan Hong and Mike Eggert will curate a special menu for the event which best evokes the city’s culture through the freshest, seasonal produce available. The event will be bright to life with matching wines and luminous light projections. Be there!
