Saskatchewan's labour market drives a new pilot program.
The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Initiative has started a new pilot programme to attract foreign employees for in-demand jobs.
In a handful of important sectors where there is already strong demand, Saskatchewan employers will be able to recruit talent from across the world through the Hard-to-Fill Skills Pilot project.
Entry-level positions that may require on-the-job training are eligible for the pilot project. Health, manufacturing, agriculture, Agri-technology, construction, hospitality, and retail are among the industries with the largest labour need in the province.
In a news release, Immigration and Career Training Minister Jeremy Harrison said, "The need for labour in our province is great, and it's only going to get stronger with the substantial economic developments just announced in Saskatchewan."
Criteria for eligibility
Candidates must meet the following criteria to be considered for the new pilot programme:
• Have a full-time, permanent employment offer from a Saskatchewan employer, as well as a SINP job approval letter for an appropriate occupation;
• Have a minimal level of proficiency in a Canadian Official Language; and
• Have a minimum of one year of work experience in the same occupation as the job offer or six months of work experience in that occupation in Saskatchewan.
Employers, on the other hand, will be required to do the following:
• Demonstrate that they have made considerable efforts to hire locally before moving forward with the pilot project's recruitment;
• Show that there is a need for and a value to their company; and
• Satisfy the standards for assisting workers with their relocation.
Saskatchewan has a lower unemployment rate than the rest of the country.
According to Statistics Canada's November 2021 employment numbers, Saskatchewan's unemployment rate is currently 5.2 percent, down from 7.1 percent a year earlier. This is significantly lower than the national average of 6.0 percent.
A recent statement from Harrison stated that the economy in Saskatchewan continues to show strength as more jobs are created and the unemployment rate continues to drop.
As a way to ensure this strength is maintained, we are funding skills training programmes and implementing the Hard-to-Fill Skills Immigration Pilot.
