Interesting Dining Experiences in Sydney
Get the most of Sydney’s vibrant dining scene and exuberant vibes at these quirky restaurants in the city.

Known for its quirky and idiosyncratic nightlife, Sydney has its fair share of quirky places to eat out. I am a food blogger based in Sydney, who has travelled the length and breadth of the country in search of unique and quirky dining experiences. But for Sydneysiders and visitors of Sydney, I have rounded up a pick of weird and exciting restaurants, where you can enjoy a memorable one.

A Cruise Dining Experience on Sydney Harbour

The world-famous Sydney Harbour is not only known for its iconic architectural structures–the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House—but also its dashing dining scene. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants and food joints lining the harbourside, often offering a splendid view of the major landmarks and attractions. A Sydney Harbour cruise offering dinner is a wonderful option for people who wish to enjoy the harbour in the after hours. During twilight, the lights come out, bathing the harbour in splendorous shades and a harbour dinner cruise is a perfect way to experience it. Besides the many dining options in and around the harbour, one of the top selling places is the lunch cruises, which offer a grand perspective of the harbour during the daylight. The biggest reason why I listed this here first is because these cruises are among the few options that are available online. All you have to do is book your seats online and wait for your date and time of cruising.

The Soda Factory

Perched on Wentworth Avenue in Darlinghurst, you will find The Soda Factory, a quirky Sydney bar that serves American comfort food classics—from signature mac n cheese to stacked burgers and hot dogs. This late night den of dancing and drinking is 1950s-themed and has stripped back plaster walls and neon signs adorning them. Every week, the place hosts five nights of non-stop live music. Do try their ice-cream topped floats and the Miss Me Marshmallow, a super-sweet concoction blended with vodka, raspberry puree, lychee liqueur and marshmallow syrup. If you’re a fan of something stronger, do try their selection of nostalgic cocktails featuring a modern twist on the old classics.

Forrester’s

This chic and friendly pub is located at the heart of Surry Hills. It was originally founded some 100 years ago and is currently split into three distinct areas—a traditional bar, a light and roomy restaurant and a specially-designed live events space. The venue’s interiors are pared back with authentic wooden beams. With colourful printed wallpaper and lush green plants hanging from the ceiling, the Phylli’s dining room is a beautiful botanical wonderland that is perfect for a date night. The second floor at Forrester’s hosts numerous events throughout the week—from trivia nights and sports screenings to live comedy. Enjoy their selection of American grill and brunch food.

Spice World

Spice World, a part of one of the most popular restaurant chains in China, is the largest dining hotspot restaurant in the country. It is also one of the most Instagrammable places featuring robot hosts, stunning interiors, quirky plates with dolls covered in wagyu beef slices and butter doggies.  Spice World is perfect for group dinners, offering a dining experience unlike anything else. Their key menu features items such as double broth, crab ball with fish roe, mini seafood platter and more.

Holey Moley

If golf and kitsch are your thing, then you’ll surely love this amazing restaurant in Darlinghurst. At Holey Moley, there is a golf course with 27 holes of themed fun across three courses. Some of the most popular themes include The Ring and Operation(the board game) and Vincent Van Gogh. At the Caddyshack, you can try a variety of signature cocktails and amazing hot dogs, burgers, pizzas and more.

Keep your eyes peeled in here for more dining spot suggestions like circus-inspired diners and lush foliage-laden brunch spots. See you soon with another roster folks!
