To categorise employment, we utilise the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system (occupations). Jobs are classified according to the sort of

 • Work responsibilities they include.

• A person's occupation

The following are the primary employment groupings for immigration purposes:

• Management positions, such as restaurant managers, have Skill Type 0 (zero).

×           Mine Supervisors

×           Captains of the coast (fishing)

• Skill Level A: professional positions that often need a university diploma, such as:

×          Doctors

×          Dentists

×          Architects

• Skill Level B: technical and skilled trade positions that often need a college degrees or apprenticeship training, such as:

×           Chefs

×           Plumbers

×           Electricians

• Skill Level C: professions that need a high school diploma and/or job-specific training, such as:

×          Butchers who work in factories

×          Truck drivers who travel great distances

×          Servers of food and beverages

• Skill Level D: labour positions with a lot of on-the-job training, like:

×          Fruit gatherers

×          Cleaning personnel

×          An oilfield worker

The NOC is used by our immigration programmes to determine if a job or kind of work experience satisfies their requirements. Jobs with NOC Skill Type 0, A, or B are considered "skilled." The 2016 version of the NOC is used to evaluate jobs.

If you have a job that requires a skill level of C or D,

A person who is confined to the country for a limited period of time is not considered a permanent resident. Find out what your job title, code, and skill level are. Nevertheless, some people decide to stay permanently in the country.

To locate the NOC information that best suits your jobs, use the table below:

a. In the "Filter items" area, type your job title.

·        The table will alter as you write words, displaying similar terms.

b. Make a note of the numeric code in the left column.

·        Take 7253 as an example.

c. Make a note of the NOC title in the centre column.

·        Take, for instance, gas fitters.

d. Make a note of the skill level or type indicated in the right column.

·        Take, for example, A. 

e. Go to the NOC website and type in your NOC title or numeric code to find your NOC.

·        Double-check that the major responsibilities outlined correspond to what you did at your   previous work.

·        If they don't, you'll have to look for an alternative job title with similar responsibilities.
