False beliefs about AI debunked
AI is now deeply ingrained in our daily lives and is no longer relegated to the realm of science fiction. But there are many false beliefs about this technology, ranging from the ridiculous to the all too real. Here are 10 false beliefs about artificial intelligence (AI) to help clear the air.

AI will displace human labor

It makes sense that many people are worried about losing their jobs as businesses in all industries continue to adopt automation. Automation will result in the loss of some jobs, but it is untrue to say that robots will largely replace people in most occupations. AI will cause job losses that open the door for new career opportunities, just as the cotton gin and printing press did.

In fact, a thorough study by Gartner revealed that by 2020, AI will create 2.3 million new jobs. Workers in industries where AI will have the biggest impact, such as manufacturing, data processing, and retail, will see an increase in job efficiency as automation replaces the most foreseeably labor-intensive tasks and supplements human labor.

Any issue can be resolved by AI.

People seem to fall into one of two opposing camps when it comes to AI: either they think the technology will end humanity or they think it will save it. There are many uses for AI, some of which have the potential to significantly alter society. Predictive analytics, improved crop production, image recognition for cancer detection, and self-driving cars that increase road safety all come to mind. However, AI is not a cure-all for global problems. In fact, AI is unlikely to solve issues that don't involve data, computation, or computer vision.
