Patients' unwillingness to consult doctors about constipation is projected to stymie global laxatives market expansion throughout the forecast period. Even in sophisticated countries, a considerable number of patients are ashamed to consult doctors for constipation. According to a 2015 Coloplast survey, almost one in every five (i.e. 20%) adults in the UK felt embarrassed to discuss constipation with their doctor. As a result, people suffering from this illness are underreported. Furthermore, in rising economies such as India, individuals do not see a doctor for constipation, particularly in rural areas. This neglect is caused by a lack of access to healthcare facilities, a lack of literacy, increased self-medication, and a low per-capita income.
