A yellowish brown deliquescent anhydrous powder CuCl2 produced by heating copper in chlorine, or a green crystalline dihydrate CuCl2.2H2O produced by evaporating cupric oxide in hydrochloric acid, both of which are primarily used as mordants in dyeing and printing, as well as in some metallurgical processes. A white toxic powder CuCl obtained by reducing cupric chloride and utilised mostly as a catalyst and carbon monoxide absorber.
