PEI heavily reliant on immigration

Immigration Minister of Prince Edward Island Matthew MacKay has said that the province is currently stagnant. He added that it is unsure as to how long the situation will continue.

Matthew MacKay explained that the province has been heavily dependent on immigration. The island also witnessed high economic growth in the past few years, he added. The pandemic has decelerated the economic expansion and this was highly unprecedented and unpredictable, elaborated the Immigration Minister.

Now, Prince Edward Island Immigration is steadily increasing. It has improved to the extent that in the first three quarters of 2021, the province accepted 3% points of the sum of fresh permanent immigrants that it accepted in 2019.

Provincial Nominee Program for Prince Edward Island

Foreign nationals who immigrate to Canada have a variety of alternatives available to them through the Prince Edward Island PNP. Through its Express Entry-aligned immigration programs, the province looks for candidates who are already in the federal Express Entry pool for nomination.

Candidates for immigration to Prince Edward Island through the province's Express Entry-aligned streams must meet the criteria of one of the following federal economic migration programs:

·        Federal Skilled Trades

·        Federal Skilled Worker

·        Canadian Experience Class

For a Canada PR visa, this stream offers two options. One is for those who have received employment offers, and the other is for those who do not. Priority is given to applicants who are already residing and working in PEI.

Candidates' profiles are scored according to a grid of points for their:

•Age

•Language proficiency

•Work Experience

•Education

•Adaptability

•Employment

This was accomplished by its Express Entry Labor Impact and Business Impact streams. The ITAs for candidates are divided as follows:

• 172 ITAs in the Express Entry Labor Impact stream

• 16 ITAs in the Business Impact stream

Applicants have sixty days from the time they get the invitation to complete and submit the entire application. All forms and supporting documentation from the federal and provincial levels are included in this. They must also pay a 300 CAD charge.

With effect from October 4, 2021, Prince Edward Island PNP converted all Workforce Applications to a system of digital payment in an effort to streamline the application process. This basically put an end to the E-transfer acceptance system.
