The capital city, Darwin, is a popular waterfront destination with numerous beaches, green areas, museums and so on. It is also the gateway to the vast Kakadu National Park, making it an unmissable experience! Even though it's mostly hot and humid, Darwin is a great place to have a weekend getaway! Here are some easy ways you can get the most out of this incredible city.

If you've been in Darwin for some time now, you may have already seen that the city is pretty good at putting up an impressive sunset view. The city’s sunsets are renowned for being gorgeous and there’s no better way than taking it in from the decks of a Darwin sunset cruise. Get your friends or family together to witness one of the mesmerising sights of the city along with a top-notch cruising experience! Enjoy a complimentary drink on arrival as you cruise past the phenomenal Cullen Bay and if you're lucky enough you might even get a chance to spot the native marine life that thrive in the harbour waters. Some of these Darwin Harbour cruises come with a food and drinks menu available for purchase and even live commentary from the accompanied crew and guides. So sit back and relax on these comfortable vessels, savour delicious food or drink against a magical sunset and go home with unforgettable memories!

Crocodiles are one of the icons of the Northern Territory and because of its high prevalence in almost every wateways, some of the beaches in Darwin have been declared not safe to swim in. However there are numerous places across the state where you can go face to face with these prehistoric giants without the risk of having to get digested by  one! A famous spot in Darwin is the Crocosaurus Cove which not only displays different species of crocodiles but also offers an exhilarating Cage of Death experience, where you will be locked inside a cage and lowered into a bask of crocodiles in which the only thing stopping them from tearing your limbs apart is the cage! On the other side of the city there is also a Crocodylus Park where you can enjoy a less terrifying experience. With over a thousand of these massive reptiles it's a great place to know more about them. There are also other informative tours inside the park that revolve around many other animals as well including the highly-threatened iguanas, meerkats and more!

If you're looking for a more culturally-oriented experience in the city, head to the Chinese Temple and Museum Chung Wah. It is an important landmark of the city which represents the heritage-rich past and significance of the Chinese people in the city. The Chinese population, at one point of time, have even outnumbered the Europeans and this temple is now one of the thriving attractions of the community. The museum highlights the history of the Chinese people of the territory and the temple has stood as a place of daily worship. The museum displays old documents, records like family trees and even personal stories of past individuals of the community in discussion. There is also a model of the old Chinatown which represents the influence of the entire Australian history as a whole. It’s even more special if you visit this place during special events, like the Chinese New Year, where there’ll be many lion dancers around the city blessing houses and businesses!
