Bandhavgarh is a national park and a tiger reserve in Bandhavgarh, Madhya Pradesh, India. It is the sole home of the endangered Bengal tiger. Bandhavgarh is a popular destination for safari and tourism. Bandhavgarh was first declared a sanctuary in 1968 and it was declared a tiger reserve in 1973. Back then, it covered an area of only 140 km2. In 1981, it was declared a national park and it was declared a World Heritage Site in 1985. The park is well known for its high density of tigers. In fact, it is estimated that there was a population of 88 tigers in the park. They are estimated to have a population of almost 600 tigers now.
