The organizers of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) have changed their schedule to avoid clashes with the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021). Now the way has been opened for West Indies players to participate in the popular Indian T20 cricket league. The league was postponed last month following a corona infection in the bio bubble of the IPL. Now it is expected to be reinstated in the UAE from September 19. According to the report, CPL 2021 will now be played in St Kitts and Nevis from 26 August to 15 September. Earlier it was to be held from August 28 to September 19.
Many Caribbean players including Chris Gayle, Sunil Narine, Kieran Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, Andre Russell play IPL. Cricket West Indies President Ricky Skerritt said, "For us, our cricketers and fans, both the CPL and the IPL are important. It is our endeavor that the dates of the two do not clash. Cricket administrators will have to work together to keep cricket alive during the Corona epidemic.
Before announcing the IPL date, the BCCI had appealed to the West Indies Cricket Board to organize the Caribbean Premier League a few days before. The BCCI wanted the CPL to end before September 19 so that the players of the IPL playing the CPL could participate in this league as well. After much discussion on this, the West Indies board has accepted the demand of BCCI and has now agreed to get its league done a few days back.
The IPL was postponed on May 4 after the Corona case came. There were 29 matches in total. 31 matches are yet to come. Recently, the BCCI had told a meeting that the remaining matches would be held in UAE instead of India. League matches will be held for the third time in the UAE. According to the information, the league will start from September 19 while the final will be on October 15. The entire 60 matches of 2020 were held in the UAE and Mumbai Indians became the champions.
