Temperature Management

Temperature Management, also known as therapeutic hypothermia or protective hypothermia, is an active treatment that attempts to achieve and maintain a specific body temperature in a person for a set period of time in order to improve health outcomes during recovery from a period of reduced blood flow to the brain. This is done to reduce the risk of tissue injury caused by a lack of blood flow. Periods of low blood flow may be caused by cardiac arrest or a clot blocking an artery, as in the case of a stroke. Targeted temperature Management improves survival and brain function after cardiac arrest resuscitation. Evidence supports its use after certain types of cardiac arrest in which an individual does not survive.
