The worldwide Robotaxi market is expected to be driven by consumers' preference for robotaxis to minimise traffic congestion, improve passenger safety, and reduce road fatalities over the projected period. For example, in October 2020, Waymo, a self-driving car business owned by Google's parent firm Alphabet, launched a driverless taxi service in Phoenix, Arizona.

Robotaxis is fully automated and can drive itself on designated routes without any supervision from an owner or an operator. These vehicles are powered by onboard computer systems and they can run for miles without human intervention. LiDAR detect and locate obstacles and other things in the surrounding area and helps the robotaxi to avoid any possible collisions or problems. To date, the newest model in this series of robotaxis is Level 4 equipped with LiDAR system which has made this type of robot particularly unique. LiDAR is incorporated in both the new model of robotaxis and its older siblings.
