Empowering the rural communities
According to statistics nearly nine million people migrate to cities looking for better opportunities. The gradual increase in migration has created a burden on the city’s resources and infrastructure. It is estimated that by 2050 more than half of the Indian population will be living in urban India.
Time has come to implement Mahatma Gandhi’s vision. To decrease the migration rates towards urban places the required amenities should be provided at the village level. Nearly 70% of India’s population roughly around one-tenth of humanity live in countryside. The population density at the villages is always being focal point for issues that make sound at national and international level.
Many organisations in association with local authorities under their CSR initiatives take sustainable measures for rural development. HCCB is one of the top FMCG company’s in India has been a forerunner in taking up rural development activities.
The two villages near Bangalore were adopted by HCCB and were converted into model villages. Many community-centric initiatives like construction of smart classrooms, RO water purifiers, overhead tanks, health camps, women empowerment programs through local SHGs. The adopted villages were also declared open-defecation free zones by building toilets in all the houses. Further, under the model village initiative many rural women were trained on many entrepreneurial endeavours like Mushroom cultivation, tailoring, Mushroom Cultivation, Papad Making, Candle Packing and many more.
The initiative for the upliftment of the communities through Model village programs enabled HCCB to reach out to more rural communities across the country. HCCB continues its efforts in developing rural development by adopting more villages and empower the villages holistically across different verticals and bring a ray of hope in the lives of the villages.
