In October 2021, a group of researchers from the University of Pittsburgh, U.S., discovered that 1 in 10,000 bacteriophage is effective at killing bacteria and that bacteriophage can be a potential solution for various infections. As an example, in medical research scientists use petri dishes to examine the communities of bacteria in several tissues or in several environments.
In Clinical Immunology or Veterinary Medicine, one can use Petri Dish to go through the structure and function of immune-regulatory factors that control inflammation and disease processes. These factors are critical in preventing or treating disease and injury and are affected by environmental exposures such as for instance chemicals, light, heat, water, and antibiotics. Petri Dishes were useful for this research to examine how specific microorganisms interact with host-innate and adaptive immune defenses.
