Fructose Is One of the Three Dietary Monosaccharides
Fructose is a monosaccharide found in many plants, where it is often bound to glucose to form the disaccharide sucrose.

There is much evidence that suggests a role for fructose on cholesterol and fatty liver disease. In both situations, fructose fails tofollow typical metabolic pathways leading to either release or disposal ofexcess triglycerides, fatty lumps called plaques that accumulate around the fatcells. Fructose appears to have a uniqueability to bypass these metabolic pathways, but whether it has novel and moregeneral health benefits or only with respect to lipid profiles is unclear.Fructose appears to increase the risk of metabolic syndrome and several otherhealth conditions, but more research is needed to clarify its effect on health. Its effects on cholesterol and triglycerides are currently being investigated.
