Mineral wool materials that are light and soft are used in frame homes and other structures that have cavities. When the thermal insulation is meant to support loads, such as on floors or roofs, heavier, harder mineral wool boards with high mass densities are employed. Various voids and crevices can be filled with mineral wool as a filler material. At a temperature of about 1400 °C, borosilicate glass is converted into glass wool by pulling the heated bulk through revolving nozzles to form fibres.
