Tooth Filling
Tooth Filling
Dental restoration, dental filling, or just dental fillings are procedures used to restore the dental function, form, and geometry of lost tooth structure due to trauma or from extensive caries, either partial or total. Dental restoration entails the complete restoration of a tooth through the use of metal or tooth-colored fillers.

To understand why a patient would require tooth fillings to treat tooth decay, one must first understand the root cause of tooth pain. Tooth pain occurs when bacteria in plaque take hold inside a cavity, often causing extreme pain over time. The teeth become infected, which is a typical result of tooth decay. A dentist will remove the decaying tooth and the decayed plaque with the use of an antiseptic mouthwash. Afterward, a sterile gauze will be applied to help with removing any blood or saliva that remained within the cavity.
