Today, US Medical Systems would like to take a closer look at a specific type of complex operating room instrument: powered surgical instruments. These devices present a number of challenges for hospital personnel and service technicians due to their complicated internal design. Although they appear to be robust and sturdy on the outside, they are extremely delicate and must be handled with extreme caution.

The invasion of fluids causes the most damage to Powered Surgical Instruments (also known as PSIs), just as it does to endoscopy equipment. PSIs, on the other hand, must be processed manually, whereas endoscopes can be processed automatically. Internally powered surgical devices should never be immersed in liquids or solutions. Even simple contact with running water can cause damage to the instrument. Condensation during sterilisation can also cause corrosion.
