A Checklist to Be Certain You Are Informed

Here are some specific questions to ask your physician that will help you get a better handle on your health:
- What is the specific nature of my injuries? What body parts are injured, and what type of pain, discomfort, or other impact should I anticipate? Does the doctor consider the injuries to be mild or serious?
- What is the projected recovery time? Obviously, some injuries heal faster than others. Are there injuries that will have a long-term or permanent impact? Are there alternative treatments that might accelerate recovery? If so, what are the trade-offs? Will most of my recovery be under the guidance of medical professionals, or will I spend time healing on my own?
- Will I need to take prescription medications? If so, what will I need to take and for how long? What is the risk of abuse or addiction with the prescribed drugs? Are there alternatives that may be safer? Are there over-the-counter medications that provide the same or similar benefits?
- Will I be able to work while I recover? If not, how long can I expect to be out of work? If I can return to work, will I need to be on restricted duty for any period of time?
