The Secret Behind the Dazzling Jewels

Compared with men, most women seem to like jewelry. There seems to be nothing more beautiful on the skin than a shiny gem. Throughout human history, jewelry has often appeared on influential figures, especially in Western societies, and every gem may even have an interesting story behind it.

Marilyn Monroe's okimoto pearl

Baseball player Joe DiMaggio gave Marilyn Monroe a wedding gift with a pearl necklace from the famous Okimoto brand. Even after the divorce, the actress kept it as a cherished memory. Before her death, Monroe gave the jewel to a friend. Later, it was put on public display and then auctioned off.

Pilgrim Pearl

The pearl was discovered by a slave in Panama more than 400 years ago and traveled through several countries before reaching the hands of King Felipe II of Spain. However, the name is not due to the crossing of pearls, but to their distinctive shape. In centuries past, the word pilgrim meant "rare or special." The pearl was set in a necklace next to an important diamond. The piece was part of the Spanish royal jewels and had to be inherited from the parents to the children.

In 1969, Richard Burton auctioned and purchased the beautiful jewel and presented it to his wife, actress Elizabeth Taylor. It stayed with her until she died. The actress wore Pilgrim pearls in both of her films.

The Pink Star diamond

It's a rare pink diamond that was discovered in a South African mine in 1999. It is the largest of the colors. It took the jeweler 20 months to cut it into an oval shape because the wrong move could ruin the beauty of the diamond.

The diamond has also been featured in an exhibit at the Smithsonian, along with other incredibly large diamonds. But what makes the Pink Star even more special is that it sold for $71.2 million at auction in 2017. This staggering figure makes the diamond the most expensive gemstone in the world.
