Choosing the Right Shape and Size of Nursing Bras for Large Breasts
Choosing the Right Shape and Size of Nursing Bras for Large Breasts
Women with larger breasts often seem to struggle with finding a bra that is just right for them. And nursing bras are no different.

It is a challenge to find the most supportive nursing bra that is also comfortable and looks good. So, here are some tips for you if you have a little more in the bust area and are looking for the right nursing bra.

Go for Sturdy Fabrics.

Choose fabrics that provide a good stretch so that your breasts are supported even when they are at their heaviest before a feed.

Choose Breathable Fabrics.

We all know the boob-sweat that larger breasts go through. To avoid rashes and irritation due to the trapped sweat, you need nursing bras that are made from breathable fabrics. And if the fabric is moisture-wicking, too, that’s a double win.

Pay Attention to the Straps.

As far as possible, avoid bras with thin straps. Instead, go for wider straps that provide more support. Wider straps will also provide more support without digging into your shoulders.

Choose a Bra with a Flat Under-Band.

When you put on the nursing bra, the under-band should be flat against your body. If it rides up or down, it means you have got the wrong size. The right under-band also prevents backache that many women with larger breasts go through.

Don’t say ‘no’ to Padded Nursing Bras.

Women with larger breasts might want to stay away from padded bras since they seem to add to the size of the breasts. However, light padding can actually feel more comfortable. In addition to avoiding nipple-show, light padding can also provide a soft cushion to your nipples that are likely sore from extended hours of breastfeeding.

Choose the Correct Cup Size.

Women with a smaller band size and larger cup size often find it the most difficult to find the right nursing bra. When they don’t find the correct cup size in the band size they need, two things can happen:

a)      They choose a larger band size. Doing this does not provide good support to the breasts.

b)      They try to squeeze in the breasts in the smaller cup size. This causes a lot of discomforts and can also lead to aggravated nipples and infections.

Instead, choose a nursing bra that has the below attributes:

a)      When you wear the bra, there is no spillage from the sides or the top. The cups should not dig into the breast tissue.

b)      You should be able to easily stick two fingers under the shoulder straps.

c)       The under-band doesn’t feel too loose or too tight. You should be able to stick in two fingers under the under-band.

Maintain the Right Posture.

If you can maintain the right posture when you are wearing your nursing bra – whether you are sitting or standing – that’s a good indication that you have got the right size. If the bra rides over the breasts or if it causes the breasts to sag, you have the wrong size.

Measuring yourself carefully is key here. You can also get the help of professionals to get yourself fitted for the right bra.

Get Yourself an Active Nursing Bra.

An active nursing bra is a must-have for mummies with larger breasts. It provides more support and restricts movement of the breasts during light exercise or even just walking around. Thus, it prevents sagging and helps the breasts maintain shape.

Wear Sleep Bras at Night.

Going braless at night is something that many women prefer. However, if you are a nursing mother with large breasts, not wearing a bra can be uncomfortable. At the same time, wearing a regular bra at night might still cause some discomfort. The best option is nursing sleep bras. They are light and comfortable and perfect for sleeping in.
