How to Write a Scholarship Essay
The following is a scholarship essay that I wrote for an organization called the United States Naval Academy Foundation. I grew up in the Midwest. My parents were both in the Navy, so I was raised around military bases. My dad was active duty, and my mom was in the reserves. My dad retired from the Navy and my mom retired from the reserves. I was blessed to have a father who had been in the Navy for over 30 years, and a mother who retired from the Navy after 20 years. They taught me a lot of lessons, including how to be responsible and take care of myself while being independent and resilient. Throughout my childhood in the Navy bases, I was constantly surrounded by military families. My dad was active duty for a long period of time, so I knew what it felt like to go on deployments with him and come home with only my mom to care for me. I also went to high school around Navy families in Hawaii and Guam, and was able to see firsthand the difficulties of military life. This helped me develop a deeper understanding for the sacrifice that all military families have gone through. As a Navy brat, I never really had any problems adjusting living on a military base
