Have a new tablet or phone? We will show you how to set it up so that you are ready to go.
You will need to determine how you can sign in to your Robinhood account from a new device. This will depend on whether or not you have Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), enabled on your device, and if your backup code is still valid. To learn more, click the dropdowns below.
What is a Backup Code? How to get one
Another way to keep your account safe is with backup codes
You will be asked to save a backup code when you enable Two-Factor authentication on your account.
Two-Factor authentication pairs what you know (your password), and what you have (in this instance, your authenticator app or code via SMS). You can use the Backup Code to replace the authenticator code / code via SMS if you don't have access or cannot retrieve your SMS codes.
Your Backup Code will disable Two-Factor authentication. After you have used your Backup Code, we strongly recommend that 2FA be reactivated.
How do you regenerate your backup code:
Your old device:
· Sign in to the Robinhood app with your email address.
· Tap the Account (person icon) in the lower right corner
· Tap the three bars at the top right.
· Tap Settings
· Scroll down and tap the Two-Factor Authentication button
· Tap Regenerate Backup Code
· Your Backup Code should be saved somewhere that you will find it. It is best to save it in the cloud or write it down somewhere safe.
On your new device:
· Sign in to the Robinhood app with your email address.
· Your Two-Factor authentication code will be required. Tap the button to use the backup code at the bottom of your screen.
· Enter your Two-Factor Authentication code
· We recommend that you enable Two-Factor authentication (2FA) immediately after you gain access to your account. This will help protect your account. 2FA provides an additional layer of security to your account.
Sign in to a new device using your old phone.
· Enter your password and email address in the app or online.
· We will send you a code by SMS to your phone number.
· When prompted, enter the code
You will need to contact our support team if you do not have a current phone number or if your number has changed.
Sign in to a new device without your old phone.
· Enter your password and email address in the app or online.
· Select need help?
· Follow the instructions by selecting Update phone number
To protect your account's security, we will ask you to verify that you are who you say you are when you change your mobile number.
