How to Prepare for the Next Generation of Apple MacBooks
Whether you’re in the market for a new computer or you’re an Apple enthusiast, you want to know more about the next wave of Apple MacBook products. Regardless, there are things you can do right now to get ready for the new MacBook Air 13 inch you have your eye on. These are tips that will make the transition from your current device to your future MacBook seamless.

Whether you’re in the market for a new computer—or will be soon—or you’re an Apple enthusiast, you’re probably excited about the next wave of Apple MacBooks. While the MacBook wasn’t the start of Apple’s March 8 event, “Peek Performance,” we did get a “peek” at a bevy of new products. We’ll all have to wait until later in the year to see what Apple has in store for the MacBook line, though it’s safe to say the next version of Apple’s silicone chip will be front and center in these future products. Will we see MacBook Pros with the M1 Ultra? Or will they jump right into M2? There are many exciting possibilities! Regardless, there are things you can do right now to get ready for the new device you have your eye on.

Is Your Current Device Ready for Trade-In?

If you’re like many, you may not need your old device once your new MacBook arrives. So, what can you do with it? You can give it to a family member or friend, donate it, or trade it in to an Apple Premier Partner. If you do a MacBook trade in, you could potentially save some serious cash on your new MacBook. If you’re trading in a 2021 or 2020 MacBook or MacBook Pro, that puts you in a pretty good spot. There are a few things to keep in mind. Is your device in good condition, or is it damaged? Does it boot up properly? How does the battery hold up? All of these questions and more will factor into the trade-in value of your old MacBook.

Is Your Data Backed Up?

Whether or not you’re planning a Mac trade in, this is one question you should address on a regular basis. Is your data saved or backed up in any way? Many Mac users have access to iCloud, Apple’s cloud storage service, but not everyone takes full advantage of it. It allows you to save a copy of everything remotely so that if anything on your device is lost, deleted, or corrupted, you have regular access to a backup version. If you have everything saved locally on your device, now is a good time to assess your files and perform a file audit. Are there things you can delete? What about files you want to back up (on an external hard drive or thumb drive)? Things you want to move to the cloud? As a general rule of thumb, it’s good to have backups of everything, just in case.

If You Need a New MacBook Right Now

Sometimes, waiting for a new device just isn’t an option. If you can hold off on a new MacBook with the newest chip, there are still plenty of great products in the MacBook lineup. You can get a MacBook Air 13 inch with the M1 chip. For those constantly on the go, it’s a fantastic option. The M1 chip is still a powerhouse. Of course, if you need something with a bit more processing power, the current MacBook Pros (both the 14- and 16-inch) deliver. You can find them with upgraded M1 Pro or M1 Max chips that pack a punch for intensive tasks like photo and video editing. You can also go with a refurbished option to save money. If you need a new-to-you MacBook now but still have your eyes on the soon-to-be-released models, this might be the best option for you.
