An eCommerce SEO Expert on “9 Important Ranking Signals You Need to Recognize”
A lot of eCommerce SEO experts offer services to boost the organic rankings of their client's websites, but not so many of them are keen to divulge just exactly how what they do works.

A lot of eCommerce SEO experts offer services to boost the organic rankings of their client's websites, but not so many of them are keen to divulge just exactly how what they do works.

So we’re here to shed some light on how eCommerce SEO strategies operate and what they change in order to boost the organic rankings and conversion rates for online stores.

They do this largely by optimizing “ranking factors.” Here’s what you should know.

What Are Ranking Signals?
Ranking signals are the website features that Google (and other search engines) use to determine how an eCommerce website (or any website, truly) will rank organically in the search engine results pages.

Who We Asked
To understand some of these so-called ranking signals a little better, we asked one of the eCommerce SEO experts over at 1DigitalⓇ Agency about some of them and what they are.

What They Are:

1. Backlinks (link-building)
Backlinks are one of the most important ranking signals of all. They can increase the domain authority of a website and send referral traffic there as well.
However, not all backlinks are good. Backlinks should come from high domain-authority sites and be relevant to the target site as well.

2. H1 Tags
H1 tags, which should appear on every single one of an eCommerce store’s pages, are a ranking signal. Google scans these tags for target keywords and then ranks them accordingly. It’s a low-hanging fruit but one that makes a big difference.

3. Product Page Content
Keyword research and a few optimized H1 tags are not enough to get a website to rank, at least most of the time. You’ll also want to craft original (non-duplicate) content for each product and category page. These are ranking signals that will boost UX and SEO.

4. Optimized Blog Posts (Another Form of Content)
Blog posts give eCommerce websites many advantages. The ability to engage with customers, create shareable content to generate leads and improve customer retention, and boost the credibility of a brand.
Blog posts can also be long-form content that is optimized for a wide range of keywords and topics. Google will take notice.

5. Good Writing
Interestingly, some search engines also prefer writing that is free of grammatical errors and typos.

6. Site Speed
Google is not the only search engine that takes web page loading speed into account. It is a ranking signal that will affect your website’s rankings. If that weren’t enough, consider this. Most visitors will bounce when a web page does not load in less than 3 seconds.

7. Sitemap Priority
Your website should have a sitemap and it should be submitted to Google - but there’s more. The priority of that page in the sitemap may also affect rankings.

8. Mobile Friendliness
Google started performing mobile-first indexing a few years back, so this is hardly news anymore. What may be news to you is that if your eCommerce business’s website is not mobile optimized, it may be hurting your rankings.

9. For Local SEO: Google My Business Listings
Some businesses have local operations, in which filling out a Google My Business Profile will help local rankings.
