The Best Keyboard Test You've Never Heard Of
Does your computer have an internal keyboard test tool? If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you’re not alone! I had no idea that any of my computers had one until a few years ago, when I accidentally discovered it. Here’s how it works and why you should use it to test your computer keyboard once in a while.

At-home keyboard

Before you buy a gaming keyboard, it’s a good idea to try it out. (Or even after you buy it!) Many people don’t test their new product out before they use it regularly and find they don’t like how certain keys feel or are designed—and others love their keyboards immediately. Try your keyboard before using it for extended periods of time to ensure you enjoy typing on it before investing your time in an expensive purchase.

How to set up the at-home keyboard test

The keyboard test is a quick, simple way to gauge your readiness for a big race. Perform it about two weeks before your goal event, ideally at home on a hard surface with good footing and plenty of space.

What you should look for when doing the at-home keyboard test

Your doctor will probably start by evaluating your range of motion and coordination, as well as your reflexes. Next, he or she will test to see how well you can bend your fingers and turn your wrists in order to evaluate mobility and stability. Finally, you’ll be asked to perform a manual dexterity test that requires you to pick up very small objects with your fingers, place them in various positions between several raised dots on a card, and then transfer them onto other cards placed near other dots. All of these tests are very simple, but they help doctors determine if there is any nerve damage present and if it’s affecting strength or coordination.

Recognizing what is considered acceptable vs. unacceptable in your at-home keyboard test results

This keyboard test is designed to catch what researchers call pre-symptomatic disease, or illnesses that are not yet causing obvious symptoms. Some of these can be detected using simple tests at home; for example, some of my family members have high cholesterol, but they don't know it because they aren't experiencing any pain or discomfort in their bodies. The point of a keyboard test is to make sure your body isn't suffering from something serious that won't show up until later in life (such as an undetected heart condition). On the flip side, keyboard tests don't tend to catch problems you may already be aware of—if you get headaches every time you eat chocolate cake, for example.

Final Words

Last but not least, you should take a keyboard test to assess whether your keyboarding skills are up to snuff. With an estimated 300 million workers in America alone and all of them working with computers, it’s vital that businesses have a workforce that can operate efficiently, as well as effectively. Whether you use an ergonomic keyboard or just love typos (we won’t judge), it’s time to make sure your typing speed is where it needs to be. Click here to take our free 5-minute test! We don't think you'll be disappointed; we know you can go faster than 50 words per minute with 95% accuracy or better. Don't believe us? Try us out yourself!
