Prayas is an Indian non-governmental organization based in Delhi. After a fire in the transitory homes and frail havens created by youngsters in Delhi's Jahangirpuri slum area, it was founded in June 1988 by Amod Kanth, ex-DCP of Delhi. When the fire broke out, the ex-Director General of Police (DGP) of Arunachal Pradesh unit and DCP for Crime in Delhi, posted at Amod K Kanth, Delhi, visited the fire site as part of his duty and was concerned for the safety of young people.
In addition, with the help of partners from the Delhi Police and the Delhi School of Social Work, Prayas were introduced in a room in Jahangirpuri.
