Creating a mesmerising landscape of lights, music and ideas, Vivid Sydney is a wonderful festival for art lovers across the city. For the past two years, the festival was put off due to the pandemic and now, we look forward to its big return. There is obviously a lot to see at the festival as the landscape metamorphosizes into a magical wonderland. Read along and get a clear look at what Vivid Sydney 2022 is!

You might have seen the theme or artistic direction for the 12th edition of this much-awaited festival- The Soul of Our City. It is the first time in the history of Vivid Sydney where there popped a theme or a direction. So, everything under light, music, and ideas would be centred around this theme and will dive deep into the heart of the city to understand Sydney better. If there are any illuminated destinations you shouldn’t miss, it would be Sydney Harbour, housing the world-popular iconic Sydney architectural marvels. You can board a Sydney Vivid cruise to take in the whole Vivid Sydney perspective without actually getting into the crowd. Offering a unique cruising experience combining Vivid light views with deluxe restaurant-quality dining is a win-win, right? You can choose a premium glass boat cruise with floor-to-ceiling glass walls, a purpose-built vessel with spacious outer decks, or an authentic paddlewheeler with an old-world charm. So, if you are interested, check out the Vivid cruise deal and board the best for you! It will be the best chance for you to see the Lighting of the Sails and the spectacular light display at the Harbour Bridge and the buzz created by creativity.

Vivid Sydney is a heavenly amalgamation of technology, creativity, and innovation. This year’s Vivid festival will truly be a surprise for everyone since for the first time in history the light, music, and ideas are all centred around a theme or artistic direction- The Soul of Our City. So for all the 23 days and nights, there will be programmes that dive deep into Sydney and explore what is the soul of our city.

The theme also brings many new programmes to the Vivid Festival calendar including the First Light, a special new event to celebrate the First Nations culture. This spectacular event includes a Welcome to Country, Smoking Ceremony, and a performance by NAISDA dancers. It’s all happening in Sydney Harbour and set against the stunning backdrop of Sharing the Same Life Essence projected on the Harbour Bridge that celebrates the Gadigal people and Country. Even if you couldn’t be there to witness the live show of First Light, there will be an edited version of this light show that will be shown on screen throughout the Light Walk each night of the festival just before Lights On at 6 pm. So that means, you don’t need to worry much since you can take in the prime views of this new event whenever you please.

First Light is not the only element added to the Vivid Sydney programme. There is something called ‘Vivid Sydney Dinner’ in the inaugural event that brings all of the festival’s elements together for an immersive dinner. It is obvious that Sydneysiders love their rich culinary tradition. If you are interested in joining the ‘Vivid Sydney Dinner’, you can head straight to the Ivy Ballroom. It will be transformed with light projections and a menu by Sydney’s favourite chefs. The programme will be hosted by actor Justine Clarke with music as well as many entertainment programmes.
