How new immigration rules in Canada will benefit Indians
Canada intends to attract approximately 1.3 million new immigrants over the next three years. Canada is raising its immigration targets yet again in order to fuel post-pandemic growth and fill critical labour shortages. This is good news for Indians who want to settle in Canada, as they are the single largest source of immigrants to the country.

Over the next three years, Canada hopes to attract approximately 1.3 million new immigrants, with total admissions amounting to 1.14 percent of the Canadian population by 2024. The Canadian government is looking at the following targets:
Permanent residents in 2022: 431,645
Permanent residents in 2023: 447,055
Permanent residents by 2024: 451,000
According to a Hindustan Times report, the majority of immigration to Canada is economic, with Indians accounting for nearly 60% of that total.

The 2021 Annual Report to Parliament on Immigration, which was tabled this week, revealed that India continues to be the top source country for immigration to Canada.
"The appearance of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 seriously decreased the admission," as per the report, "yet of the 184,606 permanent residents conceded that year, Indians represented 42,876, or 23 percent of the aggregate and almost over twice the numbers for the following most elevated, China, at 16,535."
Since 2017, when it surpassed China in terms of permanent residents, India has consistently been the largest source country (PRs). In 2019, 85,593 Indian-origin PRs were admitted to Canada, accounting for one-quarter of the total.

In 2021, Canada will welcome over 405,000 new permanent residents, the highest number of immigrants in a single year in Canadian history. Due to covid-19, the Canadian government has struggled to clear a backlog of approximately 1.8 million visa/citizenship applications.
