The air flowing out of your a c vents should feel cool and refreshing. When it starts giving warm air. you know there’s a problem. You may need to contact an AC technician, the good news is that you can sometimes troubleshoot this issue and fix it yourself.
1. Check the thermostat.
It’s possible that only your air conditioning system’s fan is running and circulating warm air throughout your home. The system's fan is on if your thermostat says "on" When the indoor unit isn't cooling it, the fan will keep pushing air through the ducts and out of the vents. To cool and dehumidify your indoor air while the fan circulates it, your thermostat needs to be set to "cool" or "auto".
2. Make sure the outdoor unit has power.
The air conditioner draws a lot of power to operate. If there is a momentary power surge, it can cause your outdoor unit to trip the circuit breaker. Check your circuit breaker panel for a tripped switch if your AC is blowing out warm air.
3. Make sure nothing is crowding the outdoor unit.
The outdoor unit of your air conditioner releases heat. On its sides and on top, it needs room for air to circulate. It's one of the reasons why we cringe when we see a unit under a deck. The condenser needs at least 1 foot of space around it and at least 5 feet of vertical clearance. Remove any shrubs or hedges that are growing against the equipment.
4. Check the air filter.
If you use your air conditioner for weeks on end, the disposable air filters will get dirty before 90 days are up. The filter will get dirty faster if you own pets.
A dirty air filter causes warm air to come from an air conditioner. Dust blocks the flow of air through the air conditioning system. Some problems are created by this. The air conditioner needs to work harder. There isn't enough hot air over the coil. Refrigerant is contained in the evaporator coil.
