Petroleum waxes are used in a variety of industries due to their versatile properties
Petroleum waxes can be produced through simple crystallisation of pure n-alkanes or through more sophisticated precipitation of living reservoir fluids. The ability to mimic these phenomena is required for the development of thermodynamic models.

As a byproduct of the lubricating oil manufacturing process, Petroleum Waxes is produced. It is made up of saturated long-chain hydrocarbons with molecular weights ranging from C18 to C60. Petrolatum is then converted into microcrystalline wax, which contains more naphthenic and branching hydrocarbons.

In general, Petroleum Waxes are more amorphous and darker in color than pure paraffin. These compounds are made up of compounds obtained from petroleum, a fossil fuel. The chemical makeup of these waxes is critical for their many applications. It enables a wide variety of staining processes. Because it has a high melting point, it also makes blocks easier to store.
