Mazda CX-30 vs. Mazda 3 - Should you swap a higher seating position for better handling?
As you know, the Mazda 3 comes in two body types, a sedan and a sedan (which dealer Bermaz Auto prefers to call liftback). Nameplates aside, the Mazda 3 family actually includes an SUV (or a crossover, if you insist on it).
The Mazda CX-30 is essentially a version of the Mazda 3 with a raised, shorter wheelbase. The distance between the wheels is 70 mm shorter and the ground clearance 40 mm higher.
The shorter wheelbase also means that the CX-30 has less legroom at the rear than the Mazda 3, which is already quite tight even at the rear.
Of the three in the family of three, the CX-30 is the least rewarding to drive (but still far better than any Honda / Nissan SUV / crossover).
The ride is stiffer (a necessary compromise given its larger body) and you won't feel like a car with the Mazda 3 hatchback / sedan. If comfort is what you're after, the Mazda 3 is better off.
If you jump between the CX-30 and the 3 Series hatchback / sedan, you'll be looking back more at the 3 Series than the CX-30. It seems easier, there is a deeper connection between you and the car. If you feel the car spinning around your waist, you better read the tiny feedback from the tire filter through the rack in the car 3.
Between limousine and limousine, we actually prefer driving the limousine. It feels a little more planted on straight roads, while the sedan is a little more playful in the corners - that's exactly what Mazda
wanted. The limousine and limousine are twin brothers with slightly different characters.
If both cars can be represented by human figures, the Mazda 3 sedan is the finely-rimmed, eye-catching brother of the architect who makes technical drawings with Hans Zimmer in the background, while the hatchback is more of the record producer free with hipster glasses.
Who is the CX-30? This is the older brother who is married who loves all three but has a miss who insists on having an SUV.
If you understand the intricacies of driving, why so few cars give you an ideal seating position and you are willing to pay a premium for the craftsmanship, you can't go wrong with one of these 3 cars.
These 3 cars are just different points on the same spectrum. It's about which one suits your character best and what you want to compromise on. Let's be honest, there is no car without compromise.
Conclusion? I love the Mazda CX-30 for its better interior, better presence on the road, bigger trunk (compared to the hatchback), easy entry and exit, but not for its comfort. In comparison, the Mazda 3 drives and drives better, but its usable space inside is rather small, especially the 3 Series hatchback.
