The current work is a survey on aircraft hybrid electric propulsion (HEP) that aims to present current technologies and future trends in the following areas: air transport market, hybrid demonstrators, HEP topologies applications, aircraft design, Hybrid Electric Jet, energy storage, aircraft internal combustion engines, and management and control strategies. Several changes in aircraft propulsion will occur over the next 30 years as a result of aircraft market demand and environmental regulations. Electrical urban air mobility (UAM) and hybrid-electric regional aircraft are two commercial areas that are developing. The first one is expected to enter service with small devices within the next ten years.
