Carbon tetrachloride is often used as a source of chlorine in the chemical industry and chloroform is used as an anesthetic, solvent, and reagent.

When inhaled, it may cause dizziness, confusion, difficulty breathing, and difficulty walking. High concentrations of chloromethane may result in coma, which is why it is so dangerous.
