Hyundai Sonata SE

Start from 39$/per a day

$23,600

Description

It used to be one of the highest-selling models for Hyundai, shifting almost a quarter of a million units a year. The last model was not amassive hit in the American market but the 2020 model is set to spice up thegame in the mid-size sedan segment. Glory days for sedans are back.

The Sonata starts from $23,400 and the range goes all theway up to $33,300. The price might seem a bit of a stretch for a mid-size sedanbut it comes loaded with some segment-first features.

For the all-new 2020 Sonata, Hyundai has shrunken down therange. Unlike the last model, only 4 trims are being offered. From SE, all theway up to the Limited. Even the base variant comes with a decent amount of kit.LED DRLs and headlamps are standard across the range and in terms of safetyfeatures, Lane-keep assist and Forward Collision assist among others arestandard too.

There are two engine options, the base and SEL come standardwith the 2.5 L NA gasoline engine and the SEL Plus and Limited variants arepowered by the familiar 1.6 L Turbocharged GDI motor.

Hyundai conveniently gives two-engine options with quitesimilar power output on paper but the way they deliver power is particularlydistinctive. The base and the SEL trim comes with the 2.5L 4 cylinder motorwhich is good for 191 HP and 189 lb-ft. of torque. It’s more or less the sameengine that powered the older model. It used to displace 2.4L. Hyundai hasreworked the internals a bit, to make it more efficient, and it now displaces2.5L. It’s a smooth 4 pot motor and the power is delivered in a linear fashion. That being said, the feeling of a strong surge of power is sorely missed.

The second engine on offer is the 1.6L GDI turbochargedmotor which also powers the Kona. On paper, the new engine lags behind the baseengine with a power figure of 180 HP and 195 lb-ft. of max torque. As thisengine is turbocharged, it produces more torque lower down the rev range whichmakes the city drive quite breezy and nipping in and out of small gaps intraffic effortless. Maximum torque kicks in at around 1800rpm and goes all theway up to 4500rpm.
