Humayun’s Tomb is a beautiful tomb located in Nizamuddin East near to the Purana Qila in Delhi. This tomb was made in the commission of Humayun’s first wife and his chief consort Empress Bega Begum. Humayun Tomb was designed by Persian architect Mirak Mirza Ghiyas and his son, Sayyid Muhammad, which were chosen by Empress Bega Begum. The Tomb was built with the rubble masonry and red sandstone and white marble was used for the flooring, lattice screens (jaalis), door frames, eaves (chhajja).
Humayun’s Tomb was the first garden-tomb in the Indian subcontinental. 1993 was the date when this tomb was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and after this, it has undergone comprehensive restoration, which has been completed. The complex houses the main tomb of Emperor Humayun, which has the graves of Queen Bega Begum, Hamida Begum, and Dara Shikoh, the great-grandson of Humayun and son of Emperor Shah Jahan as well as the son of many later emperors.
