SHORT ESSAY, HOW TO PROCEED: THE STRUCTURE
SHORT ESSAY, HOW TO PROCEED: THE STRUCTURE
Identify the purpose of your short essay and analyze the documents.
What do you want to prove with your argument? To answer this question, essential for writing a good short essay, you will first have to get an idea of what the outline requires of you and write my essay. We, therefore, recommend that you:
highlight the keywords of the title;
analyze the data and documents provided;
compare the different sources, identifying similarities and/or differences;
recover from your own experience the personal knowledge and experiences that refer to the given topic.
Your task is in fact to create reasoned connections between the material at your disposal, citing at least three sources in your short essay and adding something that comes from your cultural background. The connections, however, cannot be made randomly: they must follow a logical thread linked to the purpose of your essay that you will decide.
The ladder: thesis and antithesis
Before writing the short essay you must be clear about the order in which to proceed. The schedule that you are going to elaborate on will have to be the result of the analysis of the documents at your disposal and of how, step by step, you will decide to address the individual points. When doing it, remember that your paper must be developed organically and coherently.
Since this is a critical and argumentative text, you can choose to divide your short essay into paragraphs, possibly following the classic thesis-antithesis-synthesis scheme, that is:
Strongly affirm your idea ( thesis )
Giving space to the positions that oppose it ( antithesis )
Refute the antithesis with a new reaffirmation - even stronger and more decisive - of your thesis ( summary )

This is a piece of writing that helps readers to understand a particular topic thanks to explanations and information taken from various sources. This particular typology can be a solution if the material that is provided constitutes a deepening of a single topic and you do not have a real thesis to support the matter.
Make your thesis known
In the course of your short essay, you will have to expose the main theme of the discussion. In support of your thesis, you will have to bring facts, data, opinions, experiences ... and everything that will serve to validate it. You will have to prevent criticism ( antithesis ) by using convincing arguments. In the face of any counter-arguments and possible objections, it is important to be tolerant but decisive and never rude.
Make sure that the writing is not too schematic, add transitional sentences, that is, links between one paragraph and another that gives continuity, and link the various paragraphs, giving everything a discursive tone.
The conclusion of the short essay
In the end, re-emphasize the main points of your thesis. The conclusion must be a reasoned explanation capable of definitively giving meaning to the whole poem.
The title
Now that the short essay is finished we need to find a title, a small sentence that is both clear and captivating at the same time. It could be a title that summarizes the topic of the essay, which summarizes the conclusion reached, or a title that anticipates thesis and counter-thesis.

Finally, if deemed necessary, a subtitle can be added.
