CELPIP test is an English language proficiency test that is developed by a Canadian university, University of British Columbia. CELPIP stands for Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program.

This test is commonly used for immigration purposes (seeking for Permanent Residency and Canadian citizenship), as well as for school (college or university) entrance, acquiring a realtor licence, and obtaining an immigration consultant licence (IRCC). To learn more about the CELPIP score necessary for your application, go to Citizenship Canada's website.

As a CELPIP exam taker, I'd like to share a CELPIP Test Preparation technique with you in this post. It should go without saying that you should practise as often as possible, but you should also practise effectively. We'll focus on the CELPIP General test because that's what the most of you will be taking. The listening and speaking sections of the CELPIP General LS test are similar, therefore this instruction is still useful.

Keep in mind that the CELPIP Test is an English Proficiency Test. It assesses your ability to communicate in English in a practical environment. It is not the same as the IELTS exam. Even if you scored well on the IELTS test, you should not take the CELPIP test lightly because to the very different test style.

Remember that the CELPIP General test is written in Canadian English. What is Canadian English, exactly? Canadian English is quite similar to American English in terms of pronunciation and spelling. There aren't many vocabulary distinctions, and the pronunciation is nearly same.

Here are some suggestions for raising your CELPIP score.

CELPIP Reading Tips

  • The reading test is generally not tough, but test takers must answer the questions quickly because there isn't much time allotted.
  • If you're a slow reader, start with the questions before moving on to the passage. If you read quickly, though, you might want to read the section first to get a sense of what it's about.
  • Begin reading English materials on a daily basis. Make sure you do it at least a month before your exam. Read articles in newspapers, editorials, and blogs.
  • Reading practise with Presto English CELPIP is strongly recommended. This set of practise materials includes both skill-building questions and full CELPIP Reading Practise Exams.
  • Before consulting a dictionary, attempt to estimate the meaning of unfamiliar terms based on the context and information that has previously been presented.
  • Become familiar with a variety of opinion indicators. When you see an opinion marker, you know that an opinion statement is coming up soon.
  • This is a timed reading exam. Do a timed practise as you approach closer to your exam date to check whether you're still having trouble finishing the questions on time.

CELPIP Speaking Tips

  • There will be eight distinct speaking questions in this language test. Each activity requires a thorough understanding of the sort of question that will be asked.
  • The fact that they only have 30-60 seconds to prepare their speaking replies is one of the most difficult aspects of the speaking test for most people. Those who grumble about not being able to come up with ideas in a short period of time should practise more.
  • If you want to avoid wasting your time and money, attending lessons is a necessary for those who have failed to get the goal score in speaking. True, attending classes takes money, and you don't want to spend any more money because the test is already costly. That is why we provide a 7-day online CELPIP course.
  • Look for example speaking questions, compare your thoughts to those of others, and discuss with friends or family. People who scored well on the CELPIP test exist, therefore this isn't an insurmountable task
  • Always remember to flesh out your thoughts with specifics.
  • One way I come up with ideas is to consider important WH (who, what, when, why, and how) questions. The topic of your speaking test will contain specific details that you must incorporate in your response. Make more open-ended inquiries with those WH inquiry terms to assist you come up with extra supporting ideas for your response.
  • Use your phone to record your replies while you Practise Speaking. This gives you the opportunity to listen to them again and check for mistakes. You will also receive tailored feedback on your replies if you enrol in our CELPIP preparation programme.
  • You can practise speaking in your room on a regular basis. Begin talking about a variety of topics. You don't have to practise with CELPIP themes all of the time.
  • To demonstrate your English ability, you must demonstrate that you grasp the context and scenario. Then you must employ the appropriate tone (formal vs casual). They are attempting to assess your English competence in the job and in the community.
  • Use appropriate language for the scenario.

CELPIP Writing Tips

  • In the writing part, there are two assignments to accomplish. The first is composing an email, and the second is responding to a survey.
  • Don't use 'big terms' that you don't understand. Many students believe that utilising difficult language would impress the CELPIP rater, but they usually use it in the inappropriate context. One of the most prevalent reasons test takers don't get a 9 or better on the exam is because of this.
  • Don't be too concerned about employing idioms in your writing.
  • If you are not a native English speaker, you should get your writing examined by a professional in order to enhance your English language skills. This is significant since many test takers are unaware of their errors while they write their replies. You must be relevant, concise, and natural when Writing CELPIP. This is when a trained instructor may be of great assistance.
  • Study CELPIP writing samples that received excellent marks. If you can't locate them, try for IELTS General Drafting samples with a Band 8 or 9, which are identical to CELPIP Writing Task 1, writing an email. You may still view example essays from other English proficiency exams for CELPIP problem 2. They aren't similar, yet they are both important.
  • Presto English provides essay editing as well as personalised classes. We recently had a student who improved her writing score from 8 to 11 after participating in our CELPIP Pro session for two weeks.

CELPIP Listening Tips

  • In general, the CELPIP listening test is easier than the IELTS listening test. Concentrate on developing your functional listening skills as you prepare.
  • Take notes while you're here. When you look for information on the internet, you'll notice that some individuals prefer not to take notes throughout the test, while others believe that taking notes is essential. I recommend taking notes because the CELPIP exam includes questions regarding particular information. When you don't take notes, it's more difficult to get these questions properly.
  • Make it a habit to listen every day. You may enhance your language abilities by using our proprietary CELPIP listening practise.
  • You'd want to learn how to recognise frequent opinion cues in a discussion or speech. Our CELPIP online training includes writing correction as well.
  • Listen to sounds from Canada. CBC news snippets are excellent tools. Also available are Canadian dramas such as Kim's Convenience and Mr. D.
