Tesla plans to expand its UK dealer network
Tesla has announced that it plans to expand its UK dealer network in 2021, after adding 25 sites to its showroom portfolio in 2020, according to a report on AM-Online.

Latest strategy represents a U-turn on 2019 retail sites closure announcement.

Tesla has announced that it plans to expand its UK dealer network in 2021, after adding 25 sites to its showroom portfolio in 2020, according to a report on AM-Online.

The Californian vehicle manufacturer and clean energy company appears to have changed course after a 2019 declaration that it planned to close all its retail sites in favour of an online-only sales model.Six new Tesla locations were opened across the UK in 2020, with new showrooms appearing in Newcastle, Winchester, Gatwick, Belfast, Birmingham and Chelmsford with one more poised to open in Glasgow later this year.

Tesla has reasons to celebrate in the UK, after it was announced that their ever-popular Model 3 had made it into the UK's top 15 best-selling cars, the first-ever solely electric car to feature in the top 15 rankings.

The report on AM Online states that out of the 22,344 Teslas registered in the UK in 2020, the Model 3 accounts for approximately 90% of the total. If correct, that figure would make the Model 3 the UK’s best-selling battery electric vehicle (BEV), and the UK’s second best-selling compact saloon behind the BMW 3 Series which boasted 23,245 registrations in 2020.
