Exfoliating - is a very crucial step in your skincare routine, you just should not miss it. It can improve the appearance of your skin in several ways, making your skin smooth, resulting in a clear complexion, and preventing clogged pores.  You can use a variety of exfoliants, natural and chemical both to achieve the desired skin complexion.  With Natural products or while physically exfoliating, you are removing the dead skin from the top layer of your skin. But using chemical exfoliants that contain a variety of chemicals penetrates down to the molecular level to degrade your skin and might lose your natural oil of the skin.  But why is exfoliating important, have you ever wondered?  As with regular practice, it moisturises the damaged skin, promotes new cell growth, and gives you a smooth and glowing feel to your skin. It also helps to increase collagen production, which is key to glowing, vibrant skin.

The current skincare trend is all about going natural. There are tons of ingredients available within our reach, let us show you how to exfoliate skin naturally.

1)  Coffee- sugar mask – The most common but very effective. The sugar granules are effective on your face as they act as a physical exfoliant to remove dead skin from the top layer along with the granules from the coffee ground. Combine 1-tbs of each sugar granules and coffee ground, mix them together and scrub on your in a circular motion.  This mixture is also effective on the skin to remove sun tan and sunburn.

2) Sponges – The ancient practice of exfoliating. The loofah sponge is the most common tool that people use during showers. Its easy and accessible to use makes it a great physical exfoliant. People have started switching to Konjac sponges as well. Both these are not much harsh on your skin.

3) Sandalwood paste – With its so many ayurvedic properties sandalwood benefits the skin in myriad ways. A powerful antiseptic, emollient and anti-inflammatory agent. Being anti-microbial in nature aids in keeping the skin clean.  Use sandalwood in the form of thick paste by adding water to the sandalwood powder. With its light exfoliating properties it helps to reduce dark marks and help lift off tan.

4)  Papaya mask – An ideal and effective exfoliant, as papaya contains papain that helps to dissolve the dead skin cells and smooth and soothes your face. Take a few cubes of raw papaya,  mash them to form a paste, and apply in a circular motion. After 15 minutes, wash off with normal water. This mixture cleanses the pores and helps promote blood circulation.

5)  Orange scrub – Enriched with vitamin C, not only healthy for your body but your face as well. This citrus fruit aids in the production of collagen and prevents aging. Use sun-dried orange peels, \mix with honey and turmeric, and form them into a paste The added bonus of honey hydrates the skin, and turmeric reduce inflammation and fight infection.

How often is exfoliating required?  Depending upon the skin type, one can start by exfoliating once a week and ensure to remove all the dead skin. Make sure you don’t over-exfoliate it as it may damage your skin.

Remember to always wash off the product after you exfoliate and apply a deep moisturizer for fluffy and smooth skin.
