Before having the shingles vaccine, there are a few things to think about:
Allergies
Some people may experience an adverse reaction to components in the shingles vaccine.
If you've had a severe reaction to the Shingrix vaccination's first dose, or if you've had a severe allergy to one of the vaccine's components, or if you have shingles now, or if you're breastfeeding or pregnant, don't get the Shingrix vaccine.
If a person tests negative for the virus, the chickenpox vaccination should be given instead.
Fever
You can still obtain the Shingrix vaccine if you have a small viral disease (like a common cold). Wait to obtain the Shingrix vaccine if your temperature is higher than 101.3°F (38.5°C).
Immune system dysfunction
People with a weakened immune system should exercise caution. People with low immune systems have gotten sick from the varicella zoster virus contained in the vaccine in extremely rare circumstances.
If you feel you have a weaker immune system, consult your doctor.
