Protective masks are used for the protection of the worker's lungs and face from hazardous exposure. Masks provide protection against chemical fumes and vapors. The purpose of this safety equipment is to protect from harmful substances that could be inhaled while at work. Masks that provide good air ventilation should be worn at all times by the workers. There are many types of masks available in the market. These include disposable, full face, goggle, nose, full-bodied, gel, and polystyrene.

A reusable or disposable face mask usually has a sealed plastic mouthpiece and a clear protective barrier. The sealed mouthpiece is generally made of rubber and has an inner layer of soft fabric and Velcro closure. The rigid fabric outside of the mouthpiece contains a sealed air-tight seal that prevents the escape of particles. It also helps to prevent irritants, allergens, and particles from entering the nose. Cleaning the reusable masks is easy since there is no fabric dust and particles can be easily removed with a vacuum cleaner.
