Dilated cardiomyopathy affects many persons who have no or minor symptoms. Other people experience symptoms, which may intensify as their cardiac function deteriorates. Dilated cardiomyopathy symptoms can appear at any age and include:
Breathing problems.
Legs and feet are swollen.
Fatigue, inability to exercise or engage in normal activities.
Fluid retention causes weight gain, cough, and congestion.
Abnormal cardiac rhythms cause palpitations or fluttering in the chest.
Lightheadedness or dizziness.
Fainting.
Blood clots as a result of the slower flow of blood through the body. A blood clot can travel to the lungs, kidneys, brain, or limbs if it breaks off.
