Toronto International Film Festival 2022: the Extravagant Movie Line-up

The Toronto International Film Festival 2022 is prepping its grand return after two years of hosting virtual or pared-down events due to COVID-19 on September 8. The big event will offer up a full-fledged, week-and-a-half-long spotlight of the best of moviemaking, red carpet glory, celebrity panels, and splashy premieres. TIFF 2022 will also introduce a variety of rising stars – behind and on camera.

About TIFF 2022:

The International Toronto Film Festival will return for its 47th edition and will last up to 11 days of special events. The tiff 2022 dates are slated from September 8 to September 2022.

Toronto Film Festival 2022 has divided its movie line-up into a few different categories, including Discovery, Midnight Madness, Primetime, and Wavelengths. The marquee categories are the Gala Presentations and the Special Presentations, where some of the festival's most-anticipated movies will make their debuts.

The Gala Line-up:

A section of Toronto film festival, featuring only the high-profile films, often presented with a red carpet of the movie stars.

This years’ gala line-up for international film festival Toronto includes world premiere of historical epic "The Woman King," directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and stars Oscar winner Viola Davis, Tyler Perry's latest flick, "A Jazzman's Blues," Mary Nighy’s “Alice Darling,” and many more.

The Special Presentations:

This section of the tiff 2022 also encompasses high-profile feature films of international movie stars.

Among Toronto film festival 2022 line-up for Special Presentations are Edward Berger’s “All Quiet on the Western Front,” and Steven Spielberg's latest, "The Fabelmans."

Michael Grandage’s “My Policeman” starring Harry Styles and Emma Corrin, and “Bros” from Billy Eichner are the only queer movies that will debut under this line-up.

This section will also feature Chris Evan’s “Knives Out” sequel "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery."

Along with these big-name presentations, TIFF has also made room for some quirkier fare under its Discovery, Midnight Madness, and Wavelengths categories. The Wavelengths section features both experimental films and art films, while Midnight Madness features films pertaining to particular genre. This year, the Daniel Radcliffe-starring Weird Al Yankovic biopic will highlight the Midnight Madness section. Discovery, meanwhile, is exactly what it sounds like: a showcase designed to feature promising early-career directors.

Discovery Line-up:

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe” will mark its world premiere at the international film festival Toronto based on the coming-of-age novel by author Benjamin Alire of the same name, under Discovery.

A Canadian-Jamaican drama film, directed by Kelly Fyffe-Marshall, “When Morning Comes,” Sophie Kargman’s thriller “Susie Searches,” “Sophie Jarvis’ “Until Branches Bend,” and Basil Khalil’s comedy “A Gaza Weekend” will also marvel at the Toronto international film festival 2022,

Midnight Madness Presentations:

Hong-sun Kim’s Project Wolf Hunting,” horror-comedy “The Blackening,” and a dramatic tale of retired filmmaker, Leonor in "Leonor Will Never Die," will serve as the genre films under Midnight Mass category at the tiff 2022.

Wavelength Features:

This section at the Toronto international film festival includes both feature-length and short movies. The category was named after Michael Snow's film “Wavelength” which is considered the landmark of avant-garde cinema.

De Antoine Bourges’s feature, “Concrete Valley,” Ashley McKenzie’s “Queens of the Qing Dynasty,” and Lucien Castaing-Taylor’s documentary "De Humani Corporis Fabrica" will be among the featurettes at Wavelength category.

Wavelength Shorts:

Ben Rivers, Céline Condorelli’s take on the horror documentary, “After Work,” Angelo Madsen’s twelve-minute documentary, Bigger on the Inside, and Kurt Walker’s speculative tale “I Thought the World of You” will premiere under this category.

Needless to say, Toronto film festival 2022 is all set to bring its A-game to the movie market. From epic directional debuts to glorious celebrity attendees, tiff 2022 will be a lucrative spectacle to look forward to in September.
